The Blind Persons’ Association, erstwhile The Blind Men’s Association, is a registered voluntary charitable organization and has been working since October, 1947 for the betterment of blind individuals residing in Mumbai and suburbs & adjoining districts of Thane & Raigad. BPA caters to the needs of non-institutionalized blind persons hailing from weaker economic strata.

Scholarship and Educational Assistance

Scholarships:

Scholarship for School Studies:

BPA gives scholarship of Rs. 600/- per year to school going sighted children of blind parents.

Scholarship for Graduate Studies:

Male Students- BPA gives scholarship of Rs. 1,000/- per year to college going blind students as well as sighted children of blind parents.

Female Students - BPA gives scholarship of Rs. 1,500/- per year to college going blind students as well as sighted children of blind parents.

Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies:

Male Students- BPA gives scholarship of Rs. 1,200/- per year to college going blind students as well as sighted children of blind parents.

Female Students - BPA gives scholarship of Rs. 1,700/- per year to college going blind students as well as sighted children of blind parents.

Educational Assistance:

Free distribution of Educational Material:

BPA Provides Note Books, Pencils, School bags, Lunch Boxes, Water bags etc. to sighted children of blind parents from lower income group. The Scheme covers students up to fourth Standard.

You may Sponsor one or more children by donating requisite amount for a year.

Help the Aged Scheme

BPA has been giving monthly financial assistance to infirm & aged blind senior citizens above the age of 55 to meet their expenses such as Medicines, Grocery, Toiletries, and Clothing, etc. Presently, BPA gives Rs. 300/- per month to each client. BPA maintains good rapport with these clients. They are assisted at their doorstep, which helps in developing personal bonds with these senior citizens who otherwise feel neglected.

You may Sponsor one or more senior citizens by donating Rs. 3,600/- per person for a year.

Medical Assistance

BPA conducts Health Camps, from time to time, with active support from renowned Hospitals & Medicals Practitioners for the benefit of visually challenged persons & their family members. Moreover, the association gives medicines to the needy blind patients based on the prescription of the medical Practitioners & medical reports. Medical Assistance approximately worth Rs.1,00,000/- in a year is given under the scheme to the beneficiaries undergoing treatment of various ailments. The medical treatment getting costlier day by day we find this amount inadequate and want to increase it substantially. We have therefore decided to create a Medical Corpus of Rs. 15,00,000/- so that interest accrued, would be utilized for the same.

Financial / Other Assistance

BPA offers financial assistance to blind victims to meet unforeseen expenditure caused by Fire, Flood, and Building Collapse, untimely death of earning member of the family etc. Need based Full/ Partial financial assistance is given to acquire household articles such as Cots, Mattresses, Gas, Cupboard, Kitchen Rack, Utensils etc.

House Repair

BPA extends a helping hand to the needy blind residing in dilapidated dwelling units for repairs by procuring building material worth Rs. 2000/-

Self-Employment Project

The Association provides saleable goods such as Agarbatties, weighing scales, long exercise books. Cutlery items etc. to enterprising blind persons who would like to venture in Self Employment to earn their livelihood. In this area, we have now launched new activities like Massage camps, Ubtan project etc. which has given fillip to the visually impaired who are going through hardship.

Equipment Bank for the Blind

The Association has been running Equipment Bank for more than two decades.Aids and appliances such as Braille wristwatches, canes, folding canes Braille, writing slate etc. are offered at 50% subsidy. This is a unique Equipment Bank of its kind in Maharashtra.

Counseling Services

The Association has been providing Counseling Service to the home bound & newly blind people for their socio- economic rehabilitation and for their smooth integration in the society. Our counselors visit such clients as & when required. Workshops & Seminars are conducted for marriage counseling, stress management, personality development programs etc.

Recreational & Cultural Programs

Annual Picnic is organized for the members and their families for better interaction amongst one another. BPA also organizes various Recreational and Cultural programs such as Hawkers Day, Resheembandh, Foundation Day, International Women’s Day etc. for entertainment of the blind.
