Recreational & Cultural Programs

BPA organizes various Recreational and cultural programs such as Hawkers Day, Resheembandh, Foundation Day, Family Picnic, International Women’s Day, etc for entertainment of the blind.

Hawker’s Day:

Initially visually impaired hawkers used to have a get-together every year amongst them and felicitate one of the fellow hawkers. Now since 2008, BPA has taken up this event in which we felicitate four hard working and sincere blind hawkers for their zealous efforts put in by them for earning their livelihood and supporting and bringing up their families. This boosts their confidence and creates self-esteem in them. This function is celebrated every year in the month of May. An informative and educative speech on a range of subjects related to their daily lives is arranged on this day from some prominent personality, which is followed by an interactive session amongst them. A small gift is distributed to everyone present at the end of the function.

Resheembandh :

With the purpose of connecting the youth with our organization, we have started a new activity Resheembandh since 2013 .This is organized every year in the month of August. Under this activity, we hold various cultural programs like Singing, Anthakshari, Monoacting, and Quiz etc.to encourage youths in the age group of 18 to 35 years, which brings out the hidden talent in them.

Foundation Day:

BPA was founded on 19 October 1947. Since then we celebrate this day with a great zeal by organizing different events and entertainment programs. The function is organized in the month of October. On this day, Dr.R.T Vyas Award is conferred on a young student performing excellence in the academic career other than regular streams. This award was started in the year 2011-2012 in memory of our founder member late Dr.R.T.Vyas.

Annual Picnic:

Since 1960, BPA has been organizing Annual one-day picnic as a regular event at different places in and around Mumbai for its members and family at a very low cost. This gathering helps to create bond amongst all the members. Every year this picnic takes place in the month of January or February. Generally, about 200 people participate and enjoy this picnic with great zeal. Different games and Lucky Draws are arranged for the entertainment of participants. Our members eagerly wait for this occasion every year.

International Women’s Day

We have been celebrating International Women’s Day since last few years .This day is celebrated in the month of March where all women participate with great enthusiasm. Along with entertainment programs and various competitions, we invite prominent women personalities. During the discourse various issues related to women welfare and empowerment are discussed which creates awareness amongst our visually impaired women.
